Communion is a foundational mystery of Jesus’ church. It is foundational because it encapsulates the giving death of Jesus on our behalf. And it is a mystery because it offers Jesus to us in a real, yet intangible way. As a church family we are eager to share this gift and yet also careful that it is shared with respect and understanding.
Churches vary in preparing for this gift as early as 1st or 2nd grade or as late as high school. Beautiful Savior has formally invited parents to join with us in preparing kids for Communion in 5th grade, including anyone in 6th grade who has not yet received communion.
This year we will be helping you prepare your kids on Sunday from 3-5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This is an opportunity for child and parent or parents to participate in learning and discussing the gift of Communion. We usually offer a first Communion on Maundy Thursday but you are welcome to begin receiving communion any time after your parents have prepared you.
