BSLC Job-NET
About Job-NET
Being un-employed or even under-employed can
be a very stressful time for the whole family. "Job-Net"
is a ministry that provides advice on how to look, where
to look, and what to do when you've found what you've been
looking for. We have created a 4-week program on resources,
building and breaking down resumes, and interviewing practices,
as well as increasing the odds of having your resume viewed
by day-to-day businesses as well as government agencies.
You will also be guided through the stress of looking for
a job and the anxiety leading up to your interview. We have
set into place a mentorship program and prayer support from
our list of many volunteers.
The foundation of this ministry is a faith response to God's promises and His faithfulness. "Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net" (Psalm 25:15). Our faithful and loving God promises to provide for the needs of His people. He gives the Body of Christ the awesome responsibility to be the link and liaison between Himself and the need. Our role is to connect the person to the Provider. The following are some of the resources and support that are available:
- Prayer and personal support
- Career counseling and clarification
- Access to jobs postings
- Linkage to employment agencies
- Assistance with resume, application and interview
- Networking with employers in the church and community
- Orientation on the use of Oregon Employment Department
services
- Assistance and advocacy to help navigate through the
maze of unemployment
Many of the talents, gifts and special interests of BSLC
members are being used to help operate this program.
Networking and Job Listings:
To Job Seekers from Networking Coordinator, Lindsey Schumacher
I am thrilled to share with you the work that I have been
doing on behalf of the JobNet program. I am working with different
employment agencies gathering job information, and building
resources in our community for individuals seeking employment.
I would like to encourage you to take advantage of this information,
which is available in a JobNet notebook in the church office.
New job postings are added weekly, and I have made an effort
to make the notebook user-friendly and easy to navigate. The
listings are divided into sections according to job description
with in-depth information on how to apply. You can find listings
for some of the most sought after employers in the Portland
area including Nike, Intel and others. You will also find
information on how to conduct an online job search, and I
have included a sample resume, with tips on how to personalize
it to your own specific needs.
JobNet ministry is starting a new series beginning April
21st at 7:00 pm. Rick Nuttall will facilitate the first meeting,
speaking on the topic of Career Change. Please join us. This
service is open to everyone, so bring friends and family.
I would appreciate any questions or comments regarding the
JobNet notebook. Please contact me at linzjobnet@yahoo.com.
